My yucca plant is now 10 ft tall and has outgrown conservatory can i prune it or replant it outdoors?

I cut my yucca off just above one of its 'babies' and it did OK. Have also taken some 'babies' off and put them into compost and they've taken. Wouldn't plant it outdoors unless you live in a very dry hot area - doesn't sound like the UK!

you can do both
Reply:Yes! Just chop it off at the height you want and it should re-sprout. As a plus, the cut-off portion should root and grow if you pot it up. (If it has a lot of leaves, trim them back to reduce water loss until the roots grow).
Reply:You don't say where you live. Yucca are dessert plants. However, My mother had yucca plants in her yard for a long time. Nice, but a pain to mow around. We live in Illinois and they do okay around here. You can prune the top off(and root it with rooting hormone if you want and get another plant.)You can plant it outside, or put it in a pot outside to bring in in the winter, but I'd prune it first.
Reply:Most Yucca are Desert Plants %26amp; will not suvive out in the cold. The one you have is more thatn likely from a store that sells house plants so no it will not survive outside. their is a kind that does. i have some here in Michigan. Oh by the way Yucca's are actually trees in desert.
Reply:A mature Yucca that has been grown inside for a number of years will likely not survive outside, it would be silly to try as you just might lose it. Take a pruning saw or loppers and cut the main stem two inches above a healthy bud, it wont do any harm to the plant, try and cut it down to about five foot, to allow it a few years before it needs pruned again.
