How do I thin out yuccas (Spanish Daggers)?

I bought a house with several in a flower garden. I need to split them up before they take over the area.

How do I thin out yuccas (Spanish Daggers)?
Dig deep and get as big a clump as you can. Try to get as much root as you can too. I slice apart the yucca roots and replant them. I usually have plenty to give away too! Water the new plants well and often, they need to sprout new roots. Don't be discouraged if it looks like you "butchered" the big roots...they will grow! and grow and grow...lol
Reply:They are very hardy. But be careful when working with the things! They "ouch"! Just dig them up as best you can. There will be more to replace them in short order. Not even sure fire will kill them back.
Reply:I used my pickup to pull them up with a chain. Don't leave them laying in the yard or they will reroot.
Reply:I am going through the same thing... i have been digging them out with a shovel, pain in the @%26amp;%26amp;!!! The roots are bigger than a small child! I like the pick up idea!
