Do you divide yuccas? What's the best way?

I have a yucca that bloomed last year (we've had it for a few, this was the first year it flowered). Now there are two or three offshoots coming out from under it. Can I dig it up to make more plants? Which way do you suggest?

I did this many years ago and they survived the ordeal...Dig up the whole mess of plants. The main root may go pretty deep, so dig as far down as you can (or as far down as you want!). When you have the plant out of the ground, take a sharp knife and cut between the plants in a "natural" spot. You'll see the obvious place where the plant divides. Replant in its new home(s) after preparing the soil--loosen and add a nice organic compost. Here's a link to help. I didn't let the cut "heal" before planting, though. Good luck!

Reply:just pop them off and stick in the dirt or cut off all joking aside you dont need to touch the root they will grow have 6 bunches of yucca around a pool and they started from one.they ship yucca from s.a. it is just sticks no leaves no root
Reply:Yucca spreads like crazy in a location that it likes.

I have to dig out and kill a bunch of shoots throughout the year to keep it out of my other plants. Just dig down and cut the shoot out. If you want another plant, just stick it in the ground.

Mine has shreds of heavy plastic around it - it looks like it was planted long ago with a plastic barrier to keep it in bounds, but it has outlived the plastic.
