What is the ugliest plant that will grow in Illinois?

Somebody recently cut out my yucca because that thought that it was ugly, so I am going to plant the ugliest thing that I can find to prove a point. I would love it if you could help me. =)

What is the ugliest plant that will grow in Illinois?
plant 100 pink plastic flamingos in your yard, that would make a point......
Reply:even though i agree with the person who removed the yucca, here's a list of plants i love to hate... winterberry, alpine currant, barberry, kerria, and if you shape these into meatballs, they look even worse. by the way, if they recently tore it out and did a minimally invasive job pulling it out, chances are that the yucky yucca will come back because they have a very deep root system that allows them to survive even after being dug out. but please, don't plant ugly plants, do up your landscape instead and make it look way better than theirs. that's the best landscape revenge. good luck!
Reply:The only plant that comes to mind, and it's really not ugly, but stinks like cat pee, is cleome. It is an annual, grows to about 4ft. tall, comes in a few colors and can be started by sowing seeds into the ground....

Reply:I can't stand certain kinds of pine trees. You know, the scrawny type. And you can shape it to make it look worse too. Like Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree.
Reply:The ugliest plant is probably a power plant. :-) but I don't think you're gonna put one in your yard.

I think what's really ugly is a forsythia bush pruned into a ball, so when it blooms it looks like a tennis ball. Gurk.
Reply:he/she thought "ugly" was bad...try "stinks like vomit." yes, that would be the female ginko. the males do not fruit, the females do. and quite alot. and they're so gross! plant it close to him/her, so at least some of the fruit falls in his/her yard.

new find! it's not as hardy as the yucca (zones 8-10 versus 7-9 for the yucca) but it is the ugliest thing i've ever seen: the pseudopanax ferox. it resembles the spires in gaudi's 'sagrada familia' in barcelona, except that makes it sound more attractive than it really is. check it out on the web. my only fear is that it might get too cold in illinois for this plant (won't stand less than 20 degrees f). www.dkimages.com
Reply:KUDZU, put it in their yard and it will take over. You might be able to get a cutting of it from anyone in Alabama.

Originally it was used to control erosion around railroad tracks. This stuff once it takes root, you can burn it, clip it chop it, and it still comes back. It's not especially ugly, but it is a very annoying plant to have to deal with. And it grows like crazy fast. Personally, I'd be horrified if I saw it growing anywhere near my property.
Reply:Grow a Bear Plant, yeah how about a Bear Plant. They are blue and orange. Large but very ugly....
Reply:plant something you like, chances are they will hate that too. tacky landscaping is good revenge, especially colors that clash. That way you are not stuck with something you truly don't like and they really get an eyeful. Sweet potato vine is a fast growing annual in your area bright lime green leaves you can train it in a lot of shapes.
