For Mothers Day, my kids gave me what I think is a Yucca plant and I don't know a thing about caring for it. The plant consists of three separate "trunks" with long, sharp spires of green at the top, extending up and out. Do you think this is a Yucca? How much and how often should I water it? The pot it is in is very nice, but seems small as the spires extend out two to three times the diameter of the pot. I don't know what kind of soil it is planted in. "HELP!!" (I don't want it to die because of my lack of knowledge.) Thank you.
How do I care for a Yucca plant?
Plenty of light and do not over water, I would let it completely dry out before watering
Reply:A yucca plant requires very little care and very little watering,They prefer a sunny area( altho mine in a partly shady site) They are extremely hardy. My yucca,s are planted outdoors. I also trim my leaves in the spring ,as they get to tall for my liking, as I said they are very hardy. Be careful tho as their tall green spikes are sharp. I wear gloves when doing anything with them. Mine are 10 yrs. old and still growing. Good luck.
Reply:I would just plant it by a window you want protected and leave it alone. You can not kill it. Promise. If you live in Florida. If not you still can plant it may have to cover it in winter if it freezes. Trees make excellent cover. They are a tropical plant.
