Yucca problem.?

I have a small yucca plant in a small pot and a medium sized yucca plant in a medium sized pot. Both are showing signs of being unhappy (changing colour slightly) and presumably have outgrown their pots. So I have bought a large pot in order to transplant one of them into it. I am resigned to loosing one of them but would like to know which one of the plants has the best chance of recuperating and flourishing again when I transplant it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yucca problem.?
The smaller one will have the better chance of flourishing as it's younger and more vigorous, but why not try them both, it is not certain that one will die.
Reply:How strange, I have one yucca and I need to re-pot it too, so I did a bunch of looking last night on the subject. I found out a few things....

1. Yuccas need great drainage.

2. They like to dry out almost completely between waterings.

3. They like it even drier in the winter.

4. They like to drink from the bottom (as in from a dish under the pot).

5. They need their pots to be the right size. Too large a pot won't make it grow faster.

6. Even if you live in the north, you can take your yucca outside in the summer, starting in a shady spot then moving to direct sun.

Hope I helped... Good luck.
Reply:I have yucca filamentosa which is hardy and can be left out all summer. They have large white flower spikes. They too will grow in a pot, and I have seen large specimens in surprisingly small pots. I know they don't like alot of water. I recently moved mine and they did not like it at all so be careful not to disturb the soil.
Reply:i think yuccas do better in soil i have one in front garden 15ft been there at least 20 years.
