Is it safe to cut the trunk of a yucca tree?

Of course--Hack away, it will come back unless you have the tap root ground....a messy and volumous project. Yuccas are suculent and will regrow from a branch start if you want. My advise is to keep them short and peel the bottom leaves once a month, then recut when you can't reach the bottom leaves. Be caeful the leaves can be as sharp as razors, but on the plus side the flowers have medicinal uses as a headache or pain remedy when consumed as a tea.
