What's wrong with the Yucca Mountain site?

The DOE is pursuing a lisence from the NRC to begin contructing the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Disposal Site. The scietific community supports the site, but the major democratic candidates oppose it. To those who oppose the site, is there any feasible alternative to Yucca Mountain?

What's wrong with the Yucca Mountain site?
They just said they opposed it because they were campaigning in Nevada...would you want a nuclear waste site in your state? I like the current solution of dumping hazardous waste in the oceans...that should have great long term effects.
Reply:How about property that is owned by the us government, rather than native american holy lands? The idea that radioactive waste is better dumped in uninhabited landscapes is nonsense.

I don't think that this is a Democratic idea, I think it's more of the "not in my backyard" mentality that lead to Love Canal many years ago.

If we created the need to store waste that will really never go away, we'd better do a load of research on what happens when we merely dump it where the rent is cheap, and no one's sensibilities will be compromised. That's just Industrial Revolution talk for 2008--We should all be saying...Take ye back to the drawing board oh great scientists and government gurus!
Reply:We should dump our nuclear waste in California not Nevada. We would shut up a million liberals with one "radioactive stone".

Easy libs... just joking, your wrapped way too tight today. Take a lithium tablet and call me in the morning.
Reply:From what I understand..it's on a fault line...that's probably not a good idea
