I am moving to a new house at the end of the month. The former owners planted Yucca Plants around the garage. I think there are about two - three plants total.
With all due respect to the Yucca Plant lovers out there.....I don't like them. But, in the past I've found them to be very deep rooted and difficult to get rid of. I'm going to attempt to dig them up, but is there anything that can be put into the soil that will stop them from returning?
It's my intention to replace the Yuccas with other plants, so I don't want to put anything into the soil that would be harmful to the others that I will replace them with. Any suggestions you may have would be very helpful. ~ Thank you ~
Yucca Plant?
They have very deep roots...after you get the plant dug, they have a root killer at home depot and Lowe's, also colonial gardens nursery most nursery's have them they are also used on small trees ...place that according to directions where the root was, than I would till up the ground after the time has past according to directions and get any more pieces I found. Wait a couple of weeks than feritlize the soil before you start planting your flowers.
Reply:hard work and some blisters may be your only answer.i am also not a big fan of the yucca and have had to dig a few up last year.if you are going to replant in that area i fell that manuel labor is the way to go.the bright side is you will be able to admend and add some nutrients to the soil at the time.good luck, just take your time and it will be done before you relize it.
Reply:This is a very strong plant and the only thing you can do is dig it up. Now, if you dig deeper than the soil line and cut the root, it'll shoot up eventually, but you just snip the growth off with a pruner. I've dug these bad boys up before and you're right, you need to pack a lunch. Avoid poisons, they're non-discriminatory. Round-Up is at least biodegradeable in 24 hours, so if you HAVE to use one, use that.
