I bought a Yucca Cane Plant during the winter. All winter it stayed in my house and did great, but now I'm having some problems keeping it looking nice. The tips of the leaves are turning brown and yellow and the smaller leaves near the base of the bunch of leaves are turning brown and shriveling up. The soil is moist, but not too wet or two dry. What am I doing wrong?
Yucca Cane Plant?
Dont water it until its dry, It takes very little water even then.
Reply:i think a yucca is a dessert plant (maybe-i don't really rememeber)

My yucca plant is dying,?
i can never keep them, what should i feed it
My yucca plant is dying,?
My yucca doesn't like the cold. In winter I have to be careful which windows I open to air the house in the morning. Don't over-water, wait till the earth dries out on top before watering. I'm going to have to get rid of mine soon, because it has already nearly reached the ceiling. However, I've already started growing 'son of Yucca', which started out as a section of stem cut from a plant which had become wayward and was seriously misshapen.
Reply:I had a Mass Yucca plant and i had the same problems. I think they need a strict routine. They are fussy
Reply:Baby Bio and enough sunlight.
Reply:dont water it to much are the leaves yellowing ? start feeding next month with a week feed not too much then feed more throughout the summer it should recover.

My Cat ate my Yucca Plant...What do I do?
Hes eaten parts of it before, and nothing happened, but while we were away during the weekend, I think he may have ate too much. Now he is throwing up, not eating, and loosing weight. All the local Vets that I have called say there is no known treatment for cats the ingest Yucca plants. What should I do?
My Cat ate my Yucca Plant...What do I do?
The ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center is a 24-hour emergency service with phones manned by licensed veterinarians and toxicologists (these are not free calls; have your credit card handy):
You can call 24 hours a day from anywhere in the U.S. 1-888-426-4435
Below is a list of common houseplants that can be harmful or fatal depending on the quantity swallowed. Also, remember that cats who chew plants are exposed to any chemical pesticides or fertilizers that may have been applied directly to the plants or through the soil.
You can prevent your cat from chewing on plants by misting the leaves then sprinkling them with cayenne pepper. You might also want to consider planting a container of grass (regular grass, not the drug) for your cat. If your cats are digging in your pots, go to your local hobby/craft store and buy a few pieces of plastic needlepoint canvas. Trim it to the shape of the pot, cut a slit in it and then a hole in the center for the plant. Rest it on top of the soil and your cat will be unable to dig.
Note that any plant that looks like a variation of grass is likely going to be considered food to a cat, so it's best to keep them in hanging pots well out of reach.
Symptoms of poisoning will range from seizures and foaming at the mouth to vomiting and coma. Immediate medical attention as soon as you see the cat has eaten a toxic substance (don't wait for symptoms to appear) is necessary.

Reply:Yucca plants do not seem poisonous to cats, so what you probably are faced with is a wait and see situation, where things will probably clear up once he passes what he ingested. Hopefully, there has been no punctures from any of the stiffer leaves.
Hopefully, he will recover. Then, you might want to consider growing some cat grass for him to nibble on. He might then leave your other plants alone.

What's wrong with the Yucca Mountain site?
The DOE is pursuing a lisence from the NRC to begin contructing the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Disposal Site. The scietific community supports the site, but the major democratic candidates oppose it. To those who oppose the site, is there any feasible alternative to Yucca Mountain?
What's wrong with the Yucca Mountain site?
They just said they opposed it because they were campaigning in Nevada...would you want a nuclear waste site in your state? I like the current solution of dumping hazardous waste in the oceans...that should have great long term effects.
Reply:How about property that is owned by the us government, rather than native american holy lands? The idea that radioactive waste is better dumped in uninhabited landscapes is nonsense.
I don't think that this is a Democratic idea, I think it's more of the "not in my backyard" mentality that lead to Love Canal many years ago.
If we created the need to store waste that will really never go away, we'd better do a load of research on what happens when we merely dump it where the rent is cheap, and no one's sensibilities will be compromised. That's just Industrial Revolution talk for 2008--We should all be saying...Take ye back to the drawing board oh great scientists and government gurus!
Reply:We should dump our nuclear waste in California not Nevada. We would shut up a million liberals with one "radioactive stone".
Easy libs... just joking, your wrapped way too tight today. Take a lithium tablet and call me in the morning.
Reply:From what I understand..it's on a fault line...that's probably not a good idea

NATURAL BALANCE Ultra Premium Dry Cat Food, why does it contain a toxic plant called YUCCA?
Yucca: vomiting, depression, diarrhea, drooling, seizures

NATURAL BALANCE Ultra Premium Dry Cat Food, why does it contain a toxic plant called YUCCA?
I'd call the company. You have to wonder why certain ingredients are in pet foods. I mean, really, what is the purpose??? Thanks for info.
Considering it says Natural... we really have NO idea what we are feeding them.
Reply:Intoxication with yucca can lead to those negative side effect you mention but in the amount in the food it is unlikely to cause a problem. Yucca is used in alternative veterinary medicine for arthritis relief and bowel inflammation.
Reply:No clue - you could write to them and ask. My guess would be that it's either there because it sounds natural (appealing to the humans who buy the food), or perhaps it even provides some trace amount of a nutrient and it's a cheap way to get it into the food.
NB is a fairly decent food overall. I don't believe it's the best, and I know some people who do not think well of the company.
I've never come across yucca in my research on things to avoid in cat food. I'm not saying it's not bad for them, but it seems it's not as bad as some other ingredients. Or perhaps it's a new trend to add it and it's just not been researched yet.
Reply:um...
you do realize that the site you provided is a list of toxins to Dogs.. right?
some things are toxic to dogs that are not toxic to cats, and vice versa
(just like we can eat chocolate, but can't give it to our four legged friends.. and they can eat raw chicken, which wouldn't be advisable to us)
Reply:Because all dry cat foods are species inappropriate.
Why does Evo contain the stupid ingredients it does?
Why does Wellness?
Dry food are not good for cats anyway. Feed them a RAW diet of organic meats and bones and then you can contol what your cat gets!

Dying yucca palm?
I have a yucca palm, about 4 feet tall with 2 main stems. the top stem looks ok, but the lower one is having some issues. Its drooping and wilting and looks like its dying. Any advice? thanks!
Dying yucca palm?
Parts of them die as they grow taller, and they die from the bottom up. As long as the main root in the ground is OK it will be fine. They are almost impossible to kill.I've lived in the desert for 25 years and they grow wild here I wish you had a picture, then I could tell you for sure. I don't know where you live but if it is cold there that probably has something to do with it.

Yucca Plant?
I am moving to a new house at the end of the month. The former owners planted Yucca Plants around the garage. I think there are about two - three plants total.
With all due respect to the Yucca Plant lovers out there.....I don't like them. But, in the past I've found them to be very deep rooted and difficult to get rid of. I'm going to attempt to dig them up, but is there anything that can be put into the soil that will stop them from returning?
It's my intention to replace the Yuccas with other plants, so I don't want to put anything into the soil that would be harmful to the others that I will replace them with. Any suggestions you may have would be very helpful. ~ Thank you ~
Yucca Plant?
They have very deep roots...after you get the plant dug, they have a root killer at home depot and Lowe's, also colonial gardens nursery most nursery's have them they are also used on small trees ...place that according to directions where the root was, than I would till up the ground after the time has past according to directions and get any more pieces I found. Wait a couple of weeks than feritlize the soil before you start planting your flowers.
Reply:hard work and some blisters may be your only answer.i am also not a big fan of the yucca and have had to dig a few up last year.if you are going to replant in that area i fell that manuel labor is the way to go.the bright side is you will be able to admend and add some nutrients to the soil at the time.good luck, just take your time and it will be done before you relize it.
Reply:This is a very strong plant and the only thing you can do is dig it up. Now, if you dig deeper than the soil line and cut the root, it'll shoot up eventually, but you just snip the growth off with a pruner. I've dug these bad boys up before and you're right, you need to pack a lunch. Avoid poisons, they're non-discriminatory. Round-Up is at least biodegradeable in 24 hours, so if you HAVE to use one, use that.

Recipies for YUCCA ROOT?
Wandering through the VEGGIE Department at my local Wally World, I saw an unusual "veggie" on the shelves. - A YUCCA ROOT seems a bit "organic" for my cooking finesse.
What are some recipies that I can cook with this Yucca root? - Is it a base or can I cook it as an entree and what is the Nutritional value if this Yucca root?
I also have an oversupply of these Yucca plants that grow in the wild in my yard, so I have a potential overstock of this "vegetable" to my access if I can uproot them.
Thanks for recipies.
Recipies for YUCCA ROOT?
Yucca can be used as a base or an entree. It's very good in stews and soups.
Yucca should be peeled before you boil it, and add salt at the last minute. They are really tasty when served with chopped pork rinds. You can also make yucca bread or slice them and fry them. It's a very versatile root.
Oven-Fried Yucca
Ingredients
1 pound fresh yucca (cassava), cut into 3-inch sections and peeled (or 1 pound peeled frozen yucca)
Nonstick cooking oil spray
Directions
In a kettle, combine the yucca with enough cold water to cover it by 1 inch. Bring the water to a boil, and slowly simmer the yucca for 20 to 30 minutes, or until it is tender.
Preheat oven to 350F.
Transfer the yucca with a slotted spoon to a cutting board, let it cool, and cut it lengthwise into 3/4-inch-wide wedges, discarding the thin woody core.
Spray cookie sheet with the nonstick cooking oil spray. Spread yucca wedges on cookie sheet, and spray wedges with cooking oil spray. Cover with foil paper and bake for 8 minutes. Uncover and return to oven to bake for an additional 7 minutes.
Yield: 6 servings--Serving size: 1 piece (2 1/2 inches long)
Yucca Crisps
2 large, fresh yucca (about 1 1/4 pounds each)
3 quarts vegetable or canola oil
Kosher salt, to taste
In an 8-quart heavy-bottom pot, heat oil to 350°. Meanwhile, peel yucca with a sharp vegetable peeler. Using a mandoline or sharp knife, cut yucca crosswise into slices about 1/8-inch thick. In batches of 30, slide slices into oil one at a time. Fry about 3 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges, stirring occasionally to prevent clumping.
With a slotted spoon, transfer to paper towels. Sprinkle with salt before serving.
Yucca Soup
1 Yucca root -- peeled and cut into pieces
5 teaspoons veggie broth
5 cups Water (more if needed to cover the veggies)
2 Onions -- chopped and sauted in some of the broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Boil the yucca root pieces in the broth until tender (about 20 minutes) along with the sauted onion pieces.
When tender, put into the blender a portion at a time.
It thickens by itself. Add salt and pepper to taste.
It made about 4-5 good sized bowls of soup.
Serve with some good bread
Reply:Cook the red meat and serve this as a side by peeling and boiling it. Report It
Reply:I have had yucca on a couple of occasions and think it is best sliced SUPER thinly and then deep fried. Make "yucca chips" out of them. DELICIOUS!
Reply:While reading your question, I read Wally World. I thought my husband was the only person who called it that. You must be from the Bayou State too.
Anyway back to the question: Yucca root is a therapeutic anti-inflammatory used in relieving joint pain. I have never eaten it, but found many recipes including Yucca Fries on my Google search.
Reply:It's also called cassava. It's usually peeled and boiled until soft. It takes a while. You can also fry what's left over and it's really good. It is used to make casabe.
In Venezuela it is used to accompany grilled steak.
Reply:I'll give you my favorite, just boil them peeled and wait until soft, and mashed them with "queso freso" mexican cheese that you can find in any general supermarket, add some cilantro. It's tasty and a great unussual side dish. You can also cook them and then grilled them with your steaks topped with some guacamole. uhhhhhhhmmmmmm. as Dora the explorer would say ...DELICIOSO!
Reply:Yucca can easily be substituted for potatoes in soups and stews and it contains a high amount of vitamin C and carbohydrates. It is also a good source of dietary fiber and contains approximately 120 calories per 1 cup serving.
Historically ripe yucca fruit was split, the seeds taken out and eaten raw or roasted over coals. Young fresh yucca stalks were boiled or cooked over coals and eaten like asparagus. Seedpods were baked and eaten or sliced and dried for winter use.

I have yuca at home and I can't wait to make some tonight so thanks for the insporation! ;-)
Yuca con Aceite y Cebollas (yuca with oilve oil %26amp; onions)
Boil the yuca until done in salted water for about 25 minutes or so. Test them with a fork. Cut in half and remove spinny middle and toss.
Saute onions in butter until just done. In a blender spin some crushed garlic with olive oil.
Serve yuca with onions, drizzled with garlic-olive oil.
This would be a side dish to serve with steak, pork or fish. You can make this an entree by combining it with other veggies %26amp; cod fish here is another recipe....
Viandas con bacalao
Ingredients:
A. Yautía, plátano, chayote, malanga, batata, papas, yuca, ñame, apio (not celery) bacalao - filete
B. Onions, Olive Oil, aguacate, tomates, boiled eggs, aceitunas.
Instructions:
Choose several of the vegetables listed on A, any combination will do. Boil until cooked in the same pot with the bacalao. (The bacalao will salt the vegetables.) Drain.
Serve on a bed of leaf lettuce. Add fresh onion slices and drizzle with plenty of olive oil. Decorate using any or all items on B.
And...
Boil the yucan until tender and add (diced) to this recipe below...just serve this on top of the yuca...its amazing!!!
1 lb. bacalao (salted cod fillets)
1 medium onion (minced)
2 medium potatoes
2 aguacates (avocados)
2 chayotes
1 diced tomato
4 hard boiled eggs (sliced)
A sprinkle of "peppa" (pepper)
Salad dressing* (see below for this)
Directions
Start by boling the cod fish and change the water at least 2 times.
Change the water, add the eggs, cubed chayotes, cubed potatoes and boil for 10-15 minutes. DO NOT OVER COOK, IT WILL GET LIKE RUBBER!!
Take out the potaoes and chayotes and run cold water over them to stop them from cooking.
Shred the cod and make sure it doesn't have any bones and set aside.
Meanwhile, peel and slice the eggs while you cube the avocados and put them in a big bowl.
Add the potatoes, chayote and the shredded bacalao, to the eggs and avocado.
Salad Dressing = 3/4 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup vinegar. Mix well and pour on tossed salad. Sprinkle the "peppa".
Serve immediately and enjoy!!!
Tips
For better results, soak the bacalao over night.

Puerto Rico Empanada or Empanadillya of Yucca Recipe?
There is a recipe my grandmother use to make when I was a little girl but alas the recipe has been lost since she passed away. It was like pasteles made of yucca and wrapped in banana leaf and then foil and baked in the oven. Abosolutely delicious! I am not sure if it is called empanada or empanadilla de yucca. I think it is empanadilla de yucca. Does anyone know what I am talking about and if so would you have a recipe? I am dying to know how to make it! This would be a heartfelt recipe for me.
Puerto Rico Empanada or Empanadillya of Yucca Recipe?
My girlfriend is Puerto Rican, I'm Greek, and her mother makes Pasteles with plantains. I just found this on wikipedia... Puerto Rican empanadas, called pastelillos, are made of flour dough and are fried. They can be filled with ground beef, chicken, guava, cheese, or both guava and cheese.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empanada#Pu...
My girlfriends mom taught us to make pasteles this way:
Filling:
A-2 pounds lean pork meat, without bone
6 tablespoons jugo de naranja agria (sour orange juice)
B-Crush and mix in a mortar:
4 sweet chili peppers, seeded
4 fresh culantro leaves
2 large cloves garlic, peeled
2 tablespoons whole dried oregano
1 tablespoon salt
C-Cube finely:
1 pound lean cured ham
1 green pepper, seeded
1 onion peeled
D-1 1/2 cups seeded raisins
E-1 can (1 pound) garbanzos (Chick-peas), liquid included
1 cup water
F-24 olives, stuffed with pimientos, finely chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons capers
6 tablespoons Achiote Coloring (cook anais seed in 1 cup vegetable oil)
Wash and dry pork meat rapidly and cut into very small cubes. Mix meat cubes with the sour orange juice.
Add ingredients included in B to meat.
Add ingredients included in C and the seeded raisins. Mix together well.
In a saucepan, bring to boil ingredients included in E. Drain the liquid over the meat mixture. Remove skins from chick-peas and add chick-peas to the meat mixture.
Add olives and capers.
Add ingredients included in F, mix well, cover, and set in regrigerator until the masa is ready.
Masa (Paste)
A-4 pounds white yautia, peeled
4 pounds yellow yautia, peeled
15 green bananas, peeled and rinsed in salted water
2 cups lukewarm milk
B-1 1/4 cups (10 ounces) Achiote Coloring
2 1/2 tablespoons salt
Wash, drain and grate the yautias and bananas. Crush gradually in a mortar yautias and bananas. Mix in a bowl with lukewarm milk to make a smooth paste. (If using an electric blender, crush gradually yautias and bananas with lukewarm milk. Set in a bowl.)
Add the Achiote Coloring and salt, mix well, cover, and set aside to make the pasteles.
To Shape and Cook the Pasteles
Use 20 bundles of plaintain leaves. They should be long and wide.
With a knife, remove the central ridge to give greater flexibility to the leaves. Divide leaves into pieces, about 12 inches square. Wash and cleen leaves with a damp cloth.
Place 3 tablespoons of the masa on a leaf and spread it out so thinly, that it is almost transparent.
Place 3 tablespoons of the filling in the center of the masa.
Fold the leaf one half over the other to make a top and bottom layer of plaintain leaf and enclose the contents in it. Fold it over once more.
Fold the right and left ends of the leaf toward the center.
Wrap in a second leaf placed on the diagonal.
Tie the pasteles together, in pairs, with a string, placing folded edges facing each other.
In a large vessel, bring to a boil 5 quarts water with 3 1/2 tablespoons salt. Add 12 pasteles and boil, covered, for 1 hour. Halfway, turn over pasteles. When cooking period is finished, remove pasteles from the water at once. Repeat process with rest of pasteles
Note: Parchment cooking paper may be used in place of plaintain leaves.
I found the same exact recipe on the net, I hope it's the same one you might know!

How do you cook the yucca root? And Is it peeled or not, I think obviously! But looking for the easiest way to make it. Contact me please! ASAP!!

I believe you mean yuca, not yucca.
Peel it and cut into pieces like French fries. Deep fry it and enjoy with some salt.
Reply:You'll need to boil a large pot of water. Before you put in the yucca into the water, make sure you peel it first. just dump it in and i can't tell you exactly how long it takes to boil it, but give it a few hours. you'll know when the yucca feels tender.
just think of it as boiling potatoes.
hope this helps.
Reply:Bash it with a meat clever to tenderise it.
Don't boil it, steam it, for approximately 4 minutes 26 and a half seconds, this will preserve the nutrients. And serve with a nice shiny white sauce. Delicious.

What would happen if Yucca Mountain in Nevada got blown up?
Currently nothing more than any other mountain being blown up, all that is there is a system of tunnels and perhaps some scientific equipment. When Yucca Mountain becomes the national repository the waste will be so far underground and and so well packaged that it is hard to believe that any radioactive material will escape into the atmosphere.

Should I feed a yucca plant? General care tips please. I don't have much success.?
You never "need" to fertilize yucca. In order to flower well, they need to be in a lot of sunlight. I have one in the same boat as you, and I'm transplanting it to a brighter spot at the end of april

There nothing you can really feed it just give it water every so often that plant does not need much water at all.

So Mccain supports making Yucca Mountain, Nevada, the site for nuclear waste?
And are the people of Nevada happy about it?
So Mccain supports making Yucca Mountain, Nevada, the site for nuclear waste?
Because the site in Nevada has already been studied to death and all scientific and technical issues have been answered.
We need a place to put our existing nuclear waste and it makes no sense to spend another 10 years while people nit-pick the details of another site.
It needs to be done so lets get it done.
Reply:Isn't he a gem?
Actually, I would think that might be part of the reason the Romney delegates at the recent Nevada state GOP convention refused to back McCain and voted with Ron Paul folks (he voted against this as a violation of states' rights) towards sending the Nevada delegation in support of Ron Paul. Not having the numbers to even recess the convention, party leaders simply turned off the lights and fled in disarray, saying they were over budget and out of time at 5:30. Since they haven't managed to find a new convention spot, a Ron Paul supporter has offered to fund it, but the GOP leadership is saying no, no, no.....
Since McCain supporters aren't energized to go anywhere at all, and in Nevada don't apparently want to be known for who they support, they are trying to have an 'on line' convention. Many Ron Paul supporters are very angry at this. Personally, I can't see why. We tend to do well on line.

Why can't we convert the radiation emanating from the Yucca mountain slag heap into a flow of electricity?
What would an electricity generator with a half-life of 10,000 years be worth?
Why can't we convert the radiation emanating from the Yucca mountain slag heap into a flow of electricity?
It is not as easy as it sounds.
All[/most] the nuclear waste that will be burried in Yucca mountain has come from nuclear power plants already opperating, expending its nuclear fuel to generate electricity. What remains (the stuff they will remain dangerously radio active for thousands of years) is no longer particularly suited for genersting electricity.
Compared to the energy needed to be spent in order to capture the enegry being given off through the radio active decay of the waste, it is not really practical right now.
Reply:Red tape.
Reply:its is yellow tape
Reply:Theoretically it is possible.. However at present we are not capable of turning radioactive energy directly into electrical energy.. Nuclear power stations first change water into steam to drive turbines to make electrical energy.
Not only that, we are so inept we are only able to use some types of radioactivity and the resultant "waste" we must dump because we don't know how we can clean it up..
It's a sad fact to admit but mankind may think he is quite capable but look at it this way.. We still can't get anything better than the internal combusion engine which is around 25% efficient.. I.E we put a dollar of gas in our cars and we use 25 cents.. the rest is wasted...

Why must the Yucca Mt. Repository for radioactive waste be such a carefully selected site?
thanks for your help!!
Why must the Yucca Mt. Repository for radioactive waste be such a carefully selected site?
Yucca Mt. area must be carefully checked for the probability of volcanic events and earthquakes compromising the short term plans to use the area to store radioactive waste. Weather patterns and drainage systems, and geologic characteristics are also very important in the event that any radioactive waste materials should escape into the surrounding environment, either at the subsurface or surface.
The reliability of prediction models must also be considered when the period of time for radioactive decay of waste materials is considered.
There are also serious flaws in the reasoning that present day powers will control the same area on the planet in hundreds of years from now.
Reply:The major hazard with nuclear repositories is the transfer of the spent fuel rods. These are transported by rail and much care must be taken in thier protection en route to the site. The geology and population of the area made Yucca a prime candidate. Other options would be deep sea, space, or deep ice storage.
Reply:so that it doesnt interfere with nearby things, including
environment
fauna
flora
so thing dont mutate and become like monsters that kill humans
Reply:High-level nuclear waste from commercial reactors is dangerous and needs to be isolated from the environment and humans.
Through a combination of natural and engineered barriers, the YM site hopes to contain the waste for a hundreds of thousands of years. The low population density, the low water table, and the low permeability of the welded tuff (volcanic) rock the waste is to be isolated in will aid in this isolation.
The site contractors are putting together the License Application currently. The "LA" will be delivered to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission who will examine the application (which includes the science, engineering, and quality assurance/control documentation). The NRC will determine if the site is acceptable, is not acceptable, or needs more study based on the LA.
Reply:So that it will be very well sealed off, and there won't be contamination. Like Love Canal, but a milllliiion times worse, and as a Western New Yorker, I'm fairly familiar with what happened with Love Canal. Any kind of toxic waste needs to be sealed off extremely carefully. Unfortunately, the current site was found unsuitable due to the geology of the area, I believe--either fractures or hazards or both.

How do yucca moths find food?
They fly around and look with their eyes and if they smell prey they will go to them. They also go inside garbages and lay eggs that turn into larvae because they cannot get out. Oh and did you know that they love eating clothes too they feed on it.
How do yucca moths find food?
Like most moth pollinated flowers the yucca is most fragrant at night. Moths have odor receptors in their antennae. Their antennae are mobile to aid in stabile flight and in localizing the origin of a scent.
Yucca filamentosa, the most common species, was analyzed for floral scents. 21 scent compounds in two major classes were identified.
These compounds are volatile and easily detected in a scent plume by the moth and followed back to the plant. Moths can detect odor molecules when very rare then seek out the direction of greater fragrance density. This is chemotaxis.

Reply:Yucca moths have a unique relationship with the yucca plant. They feedon the nectaroof the flowers and pollinate the plant, and the caterpillars feed on the seeds. For more information, read on:
he relationships between plants and insects are often intricate and complex. One such relationship is that between the yucca plant and the yucca moth. Just as the honeybee and the flowers it pollinates need each other, so do the yucca and the yucca moth.
Female yucca moths have a few days to deposit approximately one hundred eggs. So they fly around, scattering their eggs onto various yucca flowers. A female typically injects about three to five eggs into one yucca flower's ovary. In the process, she benefits the flower by pollinating it.
Here's where this relationship gets more complicated though. When the moth's larvae hatch they feed on about twenty of the yucca flower's three hundred seeds. However, if too many larvae hatch inside one flower, the plant will abort the flower and the larvae will die. Therefore, it's to the advantage of the moths to be sure the flowers they deposit their eggs in do not become overloaded with eggs. Thus, the moths have developed communication through scent.
When a female moth lands onto a flower she uses her antennae to inspect the flower for the scents of previous female visitors. If one or more moths have already deposited eggs in that flower this visitor will either reduce the number of eggs she lays or move onto another flower. When she does decide to lay her eggs onto a particular flower she drags her abdomen about the surface of the flower in order to leave her own scent as a warning to future visitors.
Reply:with there hard noce they bore through boxes and bags of food at houses , and then lay larva inside of them because then can't get out.

Some ofmy cane yucca leaves are drooping and looking whiteish.why is this so?
Overwatering may be the problem or it is also time to repot or both. If your plant is outside, it might be time to dig and divide. If it is inside, you need to repot. Yucca leaves will also turn whitish if not getting enough sun. It might be time to relocate the plant where it is getting maximum sunlight. Yuccas thrive on neglect. You might be paying too much attention.
Some ofmy cane yucca leaves are drooping and looking whiteish.why is this so?
Sounds like you are watering it too much--the roots may have a root rot. Watering once a week is plenty and never let water stand in the saucer.

What can i do to save yucca mountian. ( for project)?
we have to come up with a community service [project and i chose to help stop waste from being put in yucca mountain (in nevada) does anyone have any ideas for me? like flyers or talking to companies and stuff like that? ok thanks!
What can i do to save yucca mountian. ( for project)?
Look online for people who oppose placing nuclear waste in Yucca Mountain. I believe there is some danger of an earthquake or water leaking into the area. After you have some research that is proven (VERY important that it be scientifically sound), then you can go about making posters or something.

How do I make yucca extract?
YUCCA EXTRACT IS MADE FROM THE LOWEST PARTS OF THE SPINES WHERE THEY MEET THE STEM,...ALSO THE STEM IS GOOD AND THE ROOTS. IT IS MADE BY TAKING THE USABLE PARTS, SEPERATING THEM FROM THE UNUSABLE PARTS. TAKE A ONE GALLON JAR, FILL IT WITH THE USABLE PARTS AND POUR GRAIN ALCOHOL OVER IT, PUT THE LID ON IT AND LET IT SIT IN THE SUN FOR 2%26amp;1/2 WEEKS, TAKE THE PARTS OUT AFTER THAT, TOSS THEM AWAY,....TAKE THE REMAINING LIQUID AND POUR IT INTO SHALLOW DISHES AND LET IT EVAPORATE UNTIL IT IS ABOUT 1/ 20th THE VOLUME OF THE ORIGINAL ONE GALLON.....THIS IS THE EXTRACT. YOU CAN LET IT EVAPORATE MORE TO GET BETTER EXTRACT. THE ALCOHOL SHOULD NOT PLAY A ROLL IN THE FINAL RESULT....BOTTLE THIS UP AND THERE YOU HAVE IT......YOU MUST BE OF AGE TO DO THIS.
How do I make yucca extract?
I guess you have to find a yucca plant, I dont know where they grow.
The extract is taken from the root.
You are probably better off buying it than trying to make it.

Divide
Reply:wow....I tried to rip one out with a tractor and it came back again and again for years.
the roots are large and tuberous. just dig and pull apart. replant at about the same depth and.....stand back at a safe distance.
Reply:You will have to dig it up, I dug up a huge one last year with multipul shoots on it, the root was as big around and my arm! Just transplant the roots that you divide.
Reply:You can dig it up, making sure to take the whole root system up, and not break off the taproot. Then just pull the plants apart. Re-pot or re-plant the separate plants.

1 whole yucca
Salt
4 tablespoons melted butter
4 tablespoons canola oil
1/2 red onion, diced
1 aji amarillo, diced
1 clove garlic
Salt and pepper
5 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese
1 hard-boiled egg, plus chopped hard-boiled egg, for garnish, optional
1/2 cup heavy cream
Nicoise olives, for garnish, optional
Cilantro leaves, for garnish, optional
METHOD:
Peel yucca and cut into 4 cylinders; then split in half and remove the root. Cut into large pieces. Place yucca in a large pot. Add enough water to cover yucca and season with salt. Bring to a boil and simmer until fork tender, about 30 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to cool. Brush with butter and place on grill. Cook about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove and season with salt.
Meanwhile, in a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium heat. Add onion, aji, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper and saute until onion becomes translucent. Remove from heat and add to blender. Add cheese and hard-boiled egg and blend. Slowly drizzle in heavy cream and remaining 2 tablespoons oil until sauce consistency. Adjust salt before serving.
Serve yucca with huancaina sauce, garnished with hard-boiled egg, olives, and cilantro.

Prep: 30 min., Cook: 25 min., Fry: 6 min. per batch. Buñuelos, pronounced boo-NWAY-lohs, can also be served with syrup or honey. The Cuban root vegetable malanga, with its shaggy brown skin, pinkish flesh, and nutty taste, pairs here with the beloved sweet potato.
Ingredients
1 pound sweet potatoes
1 pound malanga, peeled and cut into 4-inch chunks
2 teaspoons salt, divided
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 egg yolks, beaten
1/8 teaspoon anise extract (optional)
All-purpose flour
Vegetable oil
Powdered sugar
Preparation
Bring sweet potatoes and malanga with water to cover and 1 teaspoon salt to a boil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, and cook 20 minutes or just until tender. (Do not cook until mushy.) Drain well. Cool; peel sweet potatoes. Grate malanga and sweet potatoes into a large bowl.
Stir together 1 cup flour, baking soda, and remaining 1 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Stir in beaten egg yolks; gently stir in grated potatoes and malanga. If desired, stir in anise extract.
Divide dough into 24 equal pieces. With floured hands, roll each piece into a ball; roll each ball into an 8-inch rope on a floured surface, adding additional flour to hands and surface as needed. Shape each rope into a figure eight, pinching ends together.
Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches in a Dutch oven; heat to 375°. Fry buñuelos, in batches, 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain well on paper towels. Sprinkle with sugar; serve immediately.

Cut away all the dead stuff, this way the plant puts its energy into producing new growth. As it heats up outside it should do great. They are great low maintenance plants.

I have a yucca palm plant (tree) six feet high that has two base stems threeinches thick. It is too tall.r?
Can I cut the entire tree off to about six inches from the earth?
I have a yucca palm plant (tree) six feet high that has two base stems threeinches thick. It is too tall.r?
Do you want to get rid of it or just trim it? Your yucca will grow back again if you leave it about six inches from the earth... and if it has two base stems, you'll get maybe 6 this time. Yuccas are very resilient and will come back with a vengeance.
Reply:Well, since lots of trees grow to over six feet I can't imagine why you think this one is too tall. No it's not too tall.
Is this a house plant or is it planted outside? Is it a Yucca or a Palm (not the same plant family). Yucca is a shrubby desert plant with sharp, pointed leaves that grow from the stem. Palms are tropical or subtropical tree like plants some varieties of which can grow to over 50 feet tall. (You know, the one with the leaves that only grow out of the top of the stem.)
If it's a Palm and you cut off the the top it will die because it cannot produce leaves anywhere except the growing top. If it's a yucca it may or may not die but, unless it produces buds from the base of the plant, I would go with yes it will die.
Can you cut it off? Well, I wouldn't but it's not in my yard.

YUCCA plants... are they good?
Do they make good houseplants, do they grow big and produce flowers?
Where can you buy them in UK?
YUCCA plants... are they good?
~ Yucca's are readily available in most garden centres.
~ They will grow large eventually
~ Normally grown for the foliage rather than flower. I have not known one to flower.
~ They will tolerate fairly hot, dry conditions
~ Will survive outside in milder regions.

Is it safe to cut the trunk of a yucca tree?
Of course--Hack away, it will come back unless you have the tap root ground....a messy and volumous project. Yuccas are suculent and will regrow from a branch start if you want. My advise is to keep them short and peel the bottom leaves once a month, then recut when you can't reach the bottom leaves. Be caeful the leaves can be as sharp as razors, but on the plus side the flowers have medicinal uses as a headache or pain remedy when consumed as a tea.

You can cut it to any length or height. It should put out a new head of foliage near where you cut it off. The top peice can be rooted in sand also.

What do you think about " Yucca Mountain Repository"?
pros and cons Yucca Mountain Repository from a geologic, geographic, and climatic viewpoint
What do you think about " Yucca Mountain Repository"?
In addition to the excellent answer from geoweeg, Yucca Mountain is in the Great Basin, an area with a negative water balance. Water from the Great Basin does not escape to the sea.
However the area is tectonically active. Personally, I think a better permanent storage site would be at Whiteshell, Manitoba, Canada, where the rocks have been stable for over one billion years and extensive research has been done already.
Nobody wants it in their backyard, but its still a lot better than burning coal and dealing with millions of tons of radioactive toxic coal ash.
Reply:I think that this is about as good spot as you could find. It is in a very remote, sparsely populated area. The repository is 300 ft below the surface of the mountain, whereas the water table is at 800 ft below. The majority of the rocks in the area are welded tuff (solidified volcanic ash). The has a very low porosity and permeablity, and short of serious fractures, this is about as impervious an environment as you could find. The area has been tectonically stable for 500 thousand years, and there is nothing that would indicate renewed activity.
Finally, have the vitrified nuclear waste stored at this site is certainly better than having it scattered around the country in surface ponds at nuclear power plants.
Reply:Its better then being in my backyard.
Seriously though, no matter what humans do, it will always be wrong, if we burn oil or coal for energy, thats bad for the air, if we make wind turbines, they kill birds, wave power interferes with the ocean, on and on... Nothing we do is good enough for enviromentalists
Reply:Gotta do something with the stuff.

Anyone know yucca plants? My tree's sick!?
Within the last week or ten days, my Mojave desert-type yucca has contracted a bad bug that's killing the spiky leaves, turning them brown. There are masses of spidery-webs between the leaves and a powdery brownish deposit that looks like sawdust on the webs/affected leaves.Could this be the bug on my dwarf citrus as well?
Is this some kind of spider-mite infestation, or some kind of scale insects? What treatment is available and can I save the bushy spiked 'heads' if they're already covered with this stuff? Or is massive pruning necessary? I've only used the high pressure water hose to try'n combat this attack-any idears?

Yes! pruning is necessary , I hope it's not to late...through.
also try not to water it too much . When I lived in Joshua Tree,
this certain type of sm. beetle would attack the yuccas' %26amp;

Reply:Hi, I'm familiar with a Yucca tree, They are not that prone to insects but when they does it's sometimes hard to reach coz they usually at tact the growing point of the plants. I suspect in your case that its infested by red-spider mites. it usually forms a web, Spider mites and other mites are microscopic in size and therefore difficult to see, They thrive in hot dry areas.
Here is what i did, Wash off infestation with a strong stream of water, If necessary spray with insecticidal soap or dog shampoo, if it is really worst spray miticide as a last resort.
Good luck!

I planted a yucca cane 2 weeks ago and im noticing more spines wilting than the other yuccas.am i overwatering
Hi:
Yucca cane will thrive in dry conditions, so you may want to cut back on watering. Your plant may also be in a shock period. You can test this by taking your fingernail and scratching the surface. If it is green, the Yucca is healthy, If it is brown, the plant specimen may be in shock. There are a couple of things you can do. One is to add a slow release six month nitrogen fertilizer to the plant. Only use a handful. The other thing you can do is to add some organic mushroom compost to your soil. This is an organic fertilizer that will last up to one year. You can go ahead and do both.
I live in zone seven and Yucca and other plant specimens can go into shock. I hope this helps and if you need any further suggestions, please feel free to contact me at my website. I will link you to my simple solutions section as well as my site map. The site map has everything that is on the website. Browse through and see if you can find anything else that may help you with the Yucca or any other landscaping need. Best of luck to you and have a great day!

Has anyone used Yucca Intensive for their dog's arthritis or other condition? Does it work, is it safe?
Cannot help with Yucca Intensive, but I use Voltaren Emulgel on my cattle dog. It works after an hour or so. I apply it once per day after activity. The dog's limp dissapears. Also, am now giving the dog fish oil Tabs. They assist with reduction of arthritic pain in humans. Worth a try.
Has anyone used Yucca Intensive for their dog's arthritis or other condition? Does it work, is it safe?
Yes. We used this on our 18 year old dog before we had to put him down this summer. It seemed to work wonders on our dog. It does work. He had no side effects of it other than it seemed as if he ate a little more than usual.

My indoor Yucca Cane looks like its dying or diseased?
Every shoot seems to be having a different problem; therefore I'm having problems trying to make a diagnosis. There are 4 shoots in all:
On the lowest shoot, all the leaves fell out BUT one. The base of this shoot turned white before this happened.
On another shoot, all the leaves turned dark green and are drooping.
On another shoot, the edges of the leaves are during brown. The center leaf of this shoot hasn't opened yet, but is grey-brown-green in color and feels like there something mushy inside.
And the last shoot looks somewhat normal except for the random black "slashes" that appear randomly on every second leaf.
Suggestions anyone. Or perhaps a referal to a website with good advise. Please someone help me.
My indoor Yucca Cane looks like its dying or diseased?
The symptoms you describe point to root rot, usually either from over watering or insufficient soil aeration, or both.
Slip the plant out of its pot and look at the exposed roots. If they are spongy, black or turning black, and sparse, that may be your problem. There may also be a putrid odor.
If the roots are entirely gone, she's probably croaked.
I'm assuming that you have Yucca elephantibes. Remember that the Yucca species are desert plants, genetically adapted to dry, loose and sandy soils, heat and full sun, so you need to duplicate those conditions as nearly as you can.
Good luck
Reply:Since it has a white substance, and the "mushy" feel, it sounds like it has mealy bugs. It looks like a white substance, but it's actually the bugs and they suck the plants juices which distresses other leaves, as well. You can get a systemic insecticide which will eradicate the infestation. Since your plant is in such distress, consider getting the insecticide quickly.

Yucca plant that has stiff foliage/fronds that don't topple over.?
I am looking for a Yucca plant that has stiff foliage/fronds that don't topple over. I see many that have the big long flower in the middle, but for alot of the season, the green fronds aren't 100% stiff. I have seen some, however, that have green fronds that are totally stiff and don't bend even through the winter months or through the rain. Can you tell me the variety please? Thank you.

Are yucca and malanga the same thing?
No. They are different. Malanga is related to taro, but not yucca.
Are yucca and malanga the same thing?
Nope, they're two different species of plants. Yucca (also called soapweed, it's folk name) is an ornamental, evergreen plants with short, prostate stems that form clumps of swordlike leaves, 1/2 inch wide and up to three feet long. Stems growing up to 8 feet long sprout bell-shaped, greenish white flowers, which turn up at night; their fragrance lures moths in for pollination. They're easy to take care of, very adaptable and drought resistant; once planted, they're best left alone since they do have tap roots.
About malanga--from what I've discovered, xanthosoma is a genus of about 50 species of tropical and sub-tropical arums in the flowering plant family, Araceae, all native to tropical America. Several species are grown for their starchy corms (a short, vertical, swollen underground plant stem that serves as a storage organ used by some plants to survive winter or other adverse conditions such as summer drought and heat (estivation); an important food staple of tropical regions, known variously as malanga, new cocoyam, tannia, tannier, yautía, macabo, taioba , dasheen and ‘ape. Malanga is generally ground/pounded into a flour which is supposed to be the most hypoallergenic flour on the market; great for people who have an particular food allergy. And now you know more than you probably ever wanted to about yucca and malanga!
Reply:Generally, malanga resembles dasheen (taro) and the elephant-ear plant, with large green leaves about 2 feet wide by 2½ feet long. The upper leaf surface is rather smooth and sometimes waxy, and the lower surface is ribbed. The main difference in leaf shape between dasheen and malanga is that the dasheen's petiole (leaf stem) joins the leaf blade away from the edge of the leaf, whereas the malanga's petiole attaches at the notched edge of the leaf. The malanga plant may attain a height of 5 feet or more. Edible tubers (cormels) are formed in the soil at the base of the plant. A central large tuber (corm) is formed, with a cluster of cormels, grayish brown to black lateral tubers, around it.
The genus Yucca is one of the most remarkable groups of flowering plants native to the New World. It includes about 40 species, most of which occur in the southwestern United States and Mexico. Although they are often associated with arid desert regions, some species are native to the southeastern United States and the Caribbean islands. What truly sets this genus apart from other flowering plants is their unique method of pollination: A specific moth that is genetically programmed for stuffing a little ball of pollen into the cup-shaped stigma of each flower. Like fig wasps and acacia ants, the relationship is mutually beneficial to both partners, and is vital for the survival of both plant and insect. In fact, yuccas cultivated in the Old World, where yucca moths are absent, will not produce seeds unless they are hand pollinated.

Why do I have black spots on my yucca plant?
Not real sure. Sounds like they may be getting too much water. I have several around the house and swimming pool. Have never had any problems with tham at all. Some are even sprouting flowers as we speak!!!!!

Fall.
But better get grown specimens and plant them... It'll be tooooo looong before you see your yuccas of a reasonable size, and seeds have low success rates... They rot easily.

Yucca Cane
Can you plant a Yucca Cane Plant outside for great landscaping look?
I looked through all the varieties of Yucca and could NOT find a Yucca CANE plant. And of the 15 (VERY) different varieties, all are outdoor plants -- none were mentioned as indoor only. Many (but not all) require a warm climate.
Most of the varieties of Yucca do make very dramatic plants (use as focal points).
So, my answer is: yes for sure if you live in a warm all year climate. Maybe, if you have cold winters and short summers.
Good Luck!!

There have been different opinions. I believe some species of yucca are harmless, while others may be at least mildly toxic.

Reply:All those sort of plants are poisonous. If your cat has eaten the plant,I would watch out for any problems.Take to Vet if neccessary.
Reply:i dont think yucca is a poisonous plant..they are pollinated by yucca moth but this insects are not harmful, not poisonous. so you dont have to worry at your cat. Meow! ;]

How is Yucca mountain being/going to be paid for?
All Federal boondoggles dumping money on friends are financed by taxes, forever. Check out Head Start - 45 years of abject failure and $7 billion more for 2008.
My yucca's lower leaves are shriveling and going brown but there is always plenty of water...why is this?
You cb over-watering it.
My yucca's lower leaves are shriveling and going brown but there is always plenty of water...why is this?
There are a variety of different breeds of Yucca, many of them like warm weather and grow in dry climates, so you could be over watering it, also many of them when they start getting bigger the lower layers of leaves shrivel away and die giving room to the newer ones.
Reply:It is usual for them to shed lower leaves as they age, all the new growth will come at the top of the plant 'stem'. Don't panic and don't overwater - this kills more house plants than lack of water.
Reply:In bright or high light settings, allow the top 1/4 or 1/3 of soil to dry out before watering well. In low-light settings indoors, allow 3/4 of the soil to dry down between waterings.
When you water DO NOT let the plant sit in a puddle or saucer of water that can accumulate in the bottom of the container. In low light areas this extra water may encourage rotting.
Reply:It needs a snorkle and goggles to survive. Re-pot it with a good general soil/fertiliser and only give it a bit of water when it is completely dry. Your killing it with kindness I'm afraid.
Reply:sounds like to much watering let it dry out
Reply:Yes, sounds like you're drowning it. Mind you, it could just be the way it's growing, they do tend to abandon lower leaves and let them drop off as "no longer required".

I want to know the best way to look after a yucca plant please.?
my plant is 5ft and stood on the floor in the corner near a window
I want to know the best way to look after a yucca plant please.?
Position: Full sun to part shade
Growth Rate: Moderate
Botanical Name: Yucca flaccida Golden Sword
Planting suggestions: As single or multiple plantings to accent or to dominate this variety will also work amongst the vibrant red and green foliage of many exotic ornamentals.
Description: Yucca Golden Sword features lovely green and gold strap like leaves that weep with age. During summer pink flower spikes appear from within the plant and rest high above the foliage, opening to reveal beautiful white lightly fragranced blooms.
Cultural Notes: Drought tolerant, a very hardy plant, having a very low water requirement once established.
Landscape Ideas: A stunning accent plant for all gardens. It is ideal for rockeries and borders. Also looks exceptional in decorative or glazed pots on the patio or balcony. Mix in your garden with other Accent plants from the Touch of Class range.
Extreme survivor: Very low water requirement once established.
Reply:Plenty of direct sun and not too much water. just water once a week or every other week. cactus are really easy to care for.

You can get it in any local ethnic grocery store. Yes, it's good. Cook it as if your cooking potatoes. Peel the brown skin and put them in a pot with enough water to cover and salt.
Do you live in Alaska? I can't help you. Do you live in Idaho? I can't help you.
If you live in the big city with different ethnicity, yes you can find it their grocery store.
Good eat, good game, or whatever makes you happy.
Reply:I'm in NJ and usually find it at the Latin supermarkets (Twin City is a popular market). My family has also cooked it with coconut milk and sugar to make a sweet, warm dessert.
Reply:I don't know where you live Here in California most stores pride themselves at being able to find the hard to find item. I have gotten candies from Germany, plantains, yucca, salt cod, you know the hard to find items. Try you local grocer they might be able to special order it from the green grocer.
Reply:I live in Stillwater Oklahoma. My local Wal-Mart has it fresh year round. If we can get it here you should be able to get it anywhere by asking the produce manager.
Reply:You can buy frozen yucca at your grocers freezer. That is the only type of yucca I buy and the hard work of peeling is already done for you.
Enjoy!

Is yucca the alcoholic drink good?
Here is my version that tasted great!
5 limes, halved
5 lemons, halved
1 orange, halved
1 c sugar
1 fifth tequila
1 crushed ice
Instructions
I found out about yucca while on a camping trip.
Squeeze the juice from the fruit into a large jar like the type you make tea in. Toss in the peels. Add the sugar and fill with crushed ice.
Add the whole fifth of tequila, put the lid on and shake well.
While sitting around the campfire one evening some friends introduced me to yucca. When the jar gets passed to you, you give it a shake, twist off the lid and have a gulp. There is a ritual that goes with it. If you don't shake it first you loose a turn. If you take too small of a drink, you must drink more until everyone is satisfied that you didn't cheat yourself. If you take too big of a drink, you have to buy the tequila for the yucca jar.
Is yucca the alcoholic drink good?
10 sliced lemons
10 sliced limes
3 lb sugar
1/2 gal vodka
8 lb ice
Put the Vodka and the sugar into a container. Slice 10 lemons and 10 limes and add them to the Vodka. Mix for 10 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved.
I like to let it sit overnight or even a day or two...Be careful drinking this....Goes down to easy...

What is a rhizome on a yucca plant?
A rhizome is similar to a bulb. It is the root system of the plant. Whereas a bulb is well, bulb shaped, a rhizome is more elongated with nodes. A bulb is layered (like an onion) and a rhizome is pulpy or wood-like in structure.
What is a rhizome on a yucca plant?
a big fat root

We've had a yucca plant indoors, can they kept outside?
If your Yucca plant was purchased as an indoor houseplant from B %26amp; Q the variety will probably be Yucca Elephantipes and although it can be placed outdoors during the summer months it is not 100 per cent hardy variety. However, what you can do is to cut back the three main trunks to approximately eighteen inches and they will start to shoot again. I feel that this method will overcome your problem.
We've had a yucca plant indoors, can they kept outside?
well that depends where in the uk you live, I live in the S.E. and I've planted mine outside 4 years ago,(its 8 years old ) it does fine , but cover it in winter cos of frost . good luck.
Reply:Not all year. Frost will kill it.
Reply:Too cold in this country
Reply:depends on the species you have and where you live. I'm guessing you don't know the exact species you have but if it was sold as an indoor plant then leave it indoors until the outdoor low temperature is above fifty and bring back in when temps at night dip below fifty in the fall. When you take it outdoors do it slowly over a couple days for a few hours at a time. It's leaves will need time to adjust to the new light intensity.
Reply:Of course... that is where they grow naturally
Reply:My neighbor has yucca plants and she puts them outside after the final Spring frost, leaves them out all Summer, and then moves them back indoors before the first Fall frost. Hope this helps!!
Reply:not all year probably during the spring and summer is the best time but not the winter it will probably die from the frost.
Reply:I live in Michigan and when I was growing up we always had so many of those that we had to dig them up and give them away or burn them because they multiply like weeds. They're very hearty and take very little maintenance.
Reply:Where do you live? If it's just during the summer and still in the pot, I would imagine they could be kept out anywhere, as long as it's fairly warm. When I lived in TX, I thought they were just a desert plant, but here in Southern MO, they are all over the place (I have one at each corner of my garden). They've escaped the gardens and you see them growing wild along the roads. In fact, that's where I got mine.
