Symptoms of a dog who ate yucca?

I live in an apartment complex that has yucca plants outside, Our neighbors dogs who ate them say they had real bad pucking problems. I have a boxer who has just started having horrible diarea that contains blood. Could this also be from the yucca plant? He is still eating his food and drinking water and is not acting sick. Anyone who has any answers please help.





Also about a year ago he had a liver malfunction,but has been fine since we started him on Perscription Diet dog food.

Get him to the emergency vet if your regular vet is not open. Bloody diarrhea is not something you should ignore, even if he "seems fine."
Reply:Do not take advice from here when your pet has blood coming out it could just be worms that can be treated, but not with the stuff in the pet store there are more than one or two types of worms then again it could be something way more serious, I would be on the phone ASAP if they couldn't see me I'd be at emergency Vet
Reply:yikes, anytime there is blood in the dog's stool you should bring him into the vet. Are you positive that its blood and not something red that he has eaten? Keep a close eye on him and if the runny stools continue, or if you see anything resembling blood, I would get him into the vet ASAP. If anything, give them a call and see if they think you have anything to worry about. Never take vet advice on here... You never know if the person on the other side of the computer really knows what they are talking about or if they are just a bored 10 year old claiming that they do... Good luck!

What are the tiny bugs in the pot of my Yucca plant?

all around the roots were these tiny little white bugs. Wondering if they should be treated with something or let them be. The plant is inside and isn't doing very well. The leaves are dying.

If they look like cotton they could be mealy bugs. if they just have small bodies they could be plant lice. For either one mix up some strong detergent in water and dip a cue-tip in it. Stand the plant in the tub and brush them off the leaves with the wet cue-tip. Rinse the plants leaves with the shower. Check them every few days in case the bugs come back - just repeat.
Reply:Probably aphids. Do a search for how to get rid of them.
Reply:Remove the plant from the soil and pot and soak it in a tub of water mixed with dishwashing liquid. Throw the soil out! It's infested with either mites or aphids. Clean the pot throughly. Rinse the plant in clear water and repot it.

Should I throw out my Yucca canes or wait until summer?

I had my Yuuca cane plants since last summer stands 5ft and the leaves are dead. There are maybe 10 living leaves, but it's winter. Will they grow back in the summer or is the plant dead? I was going to throw it out today....should I wait until summer?

If I were you, I'll wait till next summer. It might live fully again. And if it dies, you'll not have any remorse of conscience for it died with a natural death.
Reply:Definitely wait until warm weather returns. Plants often loose some leaves in a frost or freeze, but the main part of the plant may still be perfectly fine. When new growth begins in the spring, you can trim off the dead leaves.

How do you fry or cook the white cluster at the top of a yucca plant? What is the name? like frying okra?

This is supposedly very good. We tasted the (leaf?) and it was a lot like the texture of a magnolia flower, but a taste like cucumber ?

We just call them Yucca Blossoms here in West Texas. Pluck individual blooms, wash and then parboil for 1 minute or so. After that, they can be sauted in butter or you can batter and fry them. Leaves aren't eaten here.

Can I keep my Yucca plant alive this winter?

it's indoors in a 3-season porch but it gets very cold out there in winter (like 30 degrees F). I can't bring it inside the house because my cats will try to eat it, and there really is nowhere else to put it. Can it survive such temps? Is there something I can cover it with to help?

I live in North Central Oklahoma and there are Yucca growing in several places around town. Some were very mature when I moved here 15 yr. ago so you should not have a problem.
Reply:What kind of yucca? Many types are cold hardy, and will be fine.
Reply:If you live in Tx. it should be fine outside but to be safe you could cover it with a burlap bag if available to you. I have just used a trash bag for mine and it was just the same as before

Reply:You can use one of those blue tarps. You know the kind, normally sold in the paint department at the local Hardware Store. You can also put something like straw or hay around the pot to protect the roots. I get those swamp cooler pads that are sold in the summertime to use. They are just like straw,but are contained in a mesh,or netting so they are way less messy. If it gets to cold, heat some rocks in the oven, and put them around the base of the pot,then cover with the tarp. You probably think I am weird, and maybe so,but we used to heat rocks up, and put them into pillowcases then stick our feet inside. Of course that was while we where camping and fishing out in the cold night,but they kept us warm all night. Really though, just a tarp would help it from freezing. Byee
Reply:If it's native to any where in the US it should be able to take some light freezes at the least.

How do I get rid of a yucca plant that is........?

growing right in the middle of my lilac bush?? I've tried digging it up and using a hatchet to chop it out. I only made it angry and it grew back in about 5 different places. I want it gone permanently but without ruining my lilac bush at the same time.

Lol. Yeah, yucca is a hard plant to get rid of. I wish I could help, but I have trouble with those plants, too. But on the bright side, you can always make paintbrushed out of them.

Reply:Use undiluted RoundUp on the yucca. Carefuly paint it on a few of the leaves being sure not to get it on your lilac. Otherwise you'll have to dig the long tap roots out - lots of work that might injure the lilac.

I am planting a flower garden from seed in Yucca Valley CA, what flowers grow best in that desert area?

I am moving to Yucca Valley in Jan(from Ohio) and want to be prepared to plant the seeds in early spring. I want flowers that will grow in the natural desert soil without adding topsoil and ones that wont need much watering after they are established. I have a lot of area to work with so I want to do areas with wildflowers and also regular flowers. Ive been doing tons of searches but surprisingly enough cannot find any one book or source for desert flowers, so am trying to figure it out by searching :


arid soil, sandy soil, zone 9, full sun etc and then trying to pick out ones common to all the lists. Unfortunately, while I have found a lsome useful information about wild flowers, I've found very little on *regular* flowers.. So if anyone has experience with flower gardening in the Mojave/desert any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much . Mykiel

Hi Mykiel My grand father who lived in Phoenix loved his roses they loved the hot dry climate(no fungus, black spot or mildew) I always love wildflowers in the spring and with the record rain fall a couple years back flowers were blooming in Death Valley, now it's moved back to us the rain(I live in Seattle WA(Flooding everywhere)) want water come and take all you want right now. Sorry back to wild flowers with water they will grow through growing season to mid summer if having enough water (pray for rain)

I would sow your wildflower seed as soon as you can because they do take root early even under snow to race above all the others for rites, I love wildflowers

Reply:Regular flower don't grow in the desert with out alot of water. Try California poppy or south african daiseys.
